MAZATLAN. – Next week the date of Motorcycle Week in Mazatlán could be announced, reported Iván Roque, secretary of the Moto Club Mazatlán and part of the organizing committee of the legendary Motorcycle Week.
The new date would be the one proposed by the city council, from May 1 to 5, however, they are aware that this may affect the participation of national and international motorcyclists who are scheduled to come during Easter Week.
“The change of date is a difficult matter. It has already happened in other cases, in other very important cities with a concentration of motorcyclists, but all of this requires logistics and coordination between the authorities and the organizing committee.”
It should be remembered that the city council proposed the change of date to the first May long weekend because a special astronomical phenomenon will occur on April 14, 2024, a “Total Solar Eclipse”, which coincides with the dates of the Easter holidays. It seeks to provide a unique tourist experience to all visitors.
Roque explained that at the national level, motorcycle clubs plan their participation in the different rallies, so it is crucial that the date be officially defined and announced at the beginning of November.
As for the clubs in Mazatlán, not all are satisfied with the change of date, since the festivities for motorcyclists traditionally take place during Easter Week.
“To be honest, they don’t agree. Easter Week in Mazatlán is very traditional. It’s not the first time this has happened. We already talked about it with the mayor. When it changed to the month of March, at the Caifanes concert there were people, yes, but not bikers”.
The member of the organizing committee of the Legendary Motorcycle Week concluded by mentioning that the date will be analyzed in collaboration with the Mazatlán city council and other organizers, since there are more groups of motorcyclists interested in carrying out the event.
