The young students representing the American continent in Romania managed to position themselves in the first places with the Shrimp Bioplastic project.

MAZATLAN. – Génesis Ayón Loza, Samantha Guadalupe Carrasco Tovar and Nathalia Quetzalli Martínez González, advised by teacher Judith González, managed to position themselves in the Top 5 of the International Festival of Science, Social, Engineering and Education in Romania, thanks to their bioplastic project shrimp, which positioned them as promoters of Mazatlán, Sinaloa and Mexico in the European country.

It is important to note that the Mazatlecas go as the only representatives of the entire American continent and that the young women have received congratulations from teachers and researchers from countries such as Puerto Rico and Panama.

They made themselves known at the last Science Expo 2022 and after obtaining the gold medal in Tunisia, Africa, one of the most important science festivals worldwide.

At the moment, the talented young women are preparing for a second exhibition of their project, competing with the countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Romania and Taiwan. The students will participate in the biology subcategory, where proposals for ecological and biological solutions to environmental problems to preserve natural habitats are pondered, as indicated on the event’s official page.

The proposal of the young Mazatlan women is to replace single-use plastics with a bioplastic that degrades and does not contaminate, made from pure chitosan that is extracted from shrimp shells that are usually discarded.

It will not be until this Saturday when they give them the new results in this international competition.
