Executives of Royal Caribbean cruise lines inspect Mazatlan

This meeting was the first event of the new Secretary of Tourism in Sinaloa, Ex-Mazatlan mayor Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres.

Mazatlan, Sin.- Executives from the Royal Caribbean shipping company headed by the director of Tourism Destination Development, Preston Carnahan, were in Mazatlan on Wednesday, on an inspection visit.

The intention is to resume cruise tourism in the north of the state and increase the arrival of ships to Mazatlan.

The meeting with Royal Caribbean executives attended by the municipal president of Ahome, Gerardo Vargas Landerosbecame the first act attended by Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, hours after receiving the appointment as head of Sectur in Sinaloa.

The new head of the Sectur said he is convinced that it will be possible to establish agreements with shipping lines so that more ships come to Mazatlan. And they also want to take them to Topolobampo.

At the end of the meeting, the undersecretary of Tourism Promotion and Operation, Estrella Palacios Domínguez, pointed out that the purpose is for the executives of the shipping company to verify the progress in port infrastructure, to be able to taste the gastronomy and to know the attractions and tourist experiences that cruise passengers will be able to experiment when they get off the ships.

“We are very happy because it is a very good sign that they have agreed to visit Mazatlan, that speaks of the interest in this tourist destination and we are grateful and happy to be able to serve them as they deserve,” he said.

He added that in addition to giving recommendations to cover the needs of their vessels when entering the port, the idea is that executives live the tourist experiences and learn about the services offered by the city, so that they can transmit them in their promotions.

At the end of the meeting, they toured the city that included a visit to the Mazatlán Aquarium, the Penguinarium, the new Mar de Cortés Aquarium and Central Park.
