In an informative meeting attended by representatives of the Ministries of the Navy, National Defense, Health, Tourism, Migration, Civil Protection, and port authorities, the Ministry of Health asked to apply prevention, surveillance and control measures for monkeypox.
“In Mexico, 147 cases have been reported; Thank God Sinaloa is protected, there was a case and it was imported, it was detected, action was taken and it’s over,” said Dr. José Enrique Crespi de la Cruz, head of International Health at the port.
In the meeting chaired by the Director of ASIPONA, Rear Admiral Mariel Aquileo Ancona Infanzón, and attended by the Director of Innovation and Quality of the Ministry of Tourism in Sinaloa, María Elena Arias Gámez, on behalf of the head of Sectur in the state, Rosario Torres Noriega, Doctor Crespi stressed the importance of prevention in the maritime, air and land terminal of Mazatlan.
“For me, it is very important that they are aware of what can happen to us.”
The head of International Health mentioned that in Mexico there are 147 cases of monkeypox and in Sinaloa only one, but given the increase in infections in the United States, it is most likely that it will fall on us in the short term.
He considered it important that the personnel in contact with land travelers and naval and airport activity workers know what is happening, what the disease is about, how to prevent transmission and, if necessary, isolate the case to try to cut the chain of contagion.
The ports receive many cruise ships and ships from other countries such as China, Africa, and the United States, and in the latter country the cases of monkeypox have increased a lot, he warned.
