Peso falls to its worst level since September 2020

The peso depreciated for the fourth consecutive session driven by a wave of aversion to risk assets; it falls back to 22.15 units per dollar.

When starting operations, the price of the dollar on Friday was up to 22.08 pesos in banks. Meanwhile, the interbank exchange rate stands at 21.82 pesos per dollar, with a loss of 1.23 percent, compared to 21.55 of the reference price on Thursday.

Citibanamex sells the dollar up to 22.08 pesos, while BBVA Mexico does so at 21.81; Banorte at 21.80 pesos and Banco Azteca  at 21.29 units.

The Mexican currency depreciated for the fourth consecutive session dragged by a wave of aversion to risk assets, due to concerns that a new variant of coronavirus could slow down the recovery of the global economy.

How is the exchange rate going?

Previously, in international operations, the currency fell to 22.15 units, its weakest level since September 30, 2020.

The weight accumulates a loss in the year of almost 10 percent and outlined its worst week since the one ended on September 25 of last year.

The new variant of covid-19 identified in South Africa prompted the European Union, the United Kingdom, and India to announce the tightening of their border controls as scientists tried to determine if the mutation is resistant to current vaccines.

The euro sold over the counter at a maximum of 24.48 pesos and 24.47 pesos purchase. For its part, the pound sterling is offered at 28.94 pesos and purchased at 28.93 pesos.

The Bank of Mexico ( Banxico) registered the previous session an exchange rate of 21.88 pesos per dollar.
