The student of the Emiliano Zapata High School of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS), Édgar de Jesús León Martínez obtained a gold medal in the XXXII National Physics Olympiad organized by the Mexican Physical Society (SMF) and with this, he was shortlisted for future international events, announced the coordinator of this academic fair at the state level.

Dr. Gelacio Atondo Rubio, also a researcher at the Faculty of Physical-Mathematical Sciences (FCFM) recalled that the Sinaloa delegation was made up of four students, who won a silver and a bronze medal, adding three in this edition; He also stressed that all of them are part of the Mexican preselection.

The optics specialist pointed out that these results position the Sinaloa delegation within the first five places at the national level, “since 2008 the results have been favorable for Sinaloa, (…) at the national level in this edition 30 young people are selected and Sinaloa “puts” three “.

He announced that in this period, FCFM students and teachers will train the three young people to solve each of the filters indicated by the SMF in order to form the Mexican delegation that would participate in the International, Ibero-American, Central American and European Olympiad, “We just have to wait if the Sinaloan youth pass the filters and for which international event they are selected.”

For his part, Édgar de Jesús León Martínez, a 2nd-year student at Emiliano Zapata High School, said he was excited to have participated in this edition of the National Physics Olympiad and that he has thoroughly prepared for this with the help of ex-Olympians from the FCFM.

He said that the exam was virtual, lasting approximately 3 and a half hours, and said that there were topics on mechanics, optics, electromechanics, among others.

“These participations help you to continue as a student, the high school teachers help you and are flexible, it is good to participate,” he said.
