This project could generate up to 142 thousand direct and indirect jobs and an economic spill of up to 13.1 billion dollars in just the next 5 years.

The Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) presented the project ” National Crusade for Tourism Digitization ” of the Magical Towns, which aims to digitize tourism providers, operators, and companies destined to provide lodging services in these destinations.

Regarding this initiative, the agency indicated that it will respond to the needs of companies in this sector, to have essential instruments for their promotion, marketing, and distribution of products on platforms and social networks.

Likewise, it was indicated that this new modality will start in the coming months in the Magical Towns of Aguascalientes, Chiapas, the State of Mexico, Oaxaca, and Puebla.

“Having a digitized sector is vital so that the tourist activity can face the future with viability and above all with success, for this reason, all actors must understand that digitization is the way to continue and advance in the next tourist cycles”, expressed Miguel Torruco, head of SECTUR.

Meanwhile, he added that the National Crusade for the Tourist Digitization of Magical Towns will be promoted at no cost to the public treasury and is aligned with the National Strategy issued by the Government of Mexico so that Mexicans have access to ICT.

Google joins the project

This new project will have the backing and support of Private Initiative actors such as GoogleGUEEST, and Rotamundos, which will allow promoting a comprehensive program that addresses current digitization needs.

In this sense, the participation of the search engine will focus on presenting a strategy through the tools of Google, Youtube, and Waze; from giving specific locations of the magical towns to recommending tourist, creative and educational experiences.

Multiple benefits for the sector

The projections for this project are encouraging because according to Oxford Tourism Economics, digitization in the Mexican tourism sector will drive a cumulative increase of thirteen billion dollars in tourism spillover in just the next five years.

This will also promote the creation of up to 142,000 new jobs (direct and indirect) and an increase of 21.5 million in nights spent throughout the country.

Torruco stressed that the strategic alliances with these world-class companies will allow the Magical Towns and World Heritage cities to be better positioned in the national and international market.

Through Despegar.com, a special information page and a plan will be created throughout the platform to promote and market all the products that Magic Towns have.

Gueest will provide comprehensive technological tools, management, administration, sales and training under the commission scheme to small hotels so that what is marketed through the platform is the only thing that is charged.

For its part, the strategy with Google will be the most ambitious as the free tools of YouTube, Google and Waze will join together to contribute to the reactivation of the tourism sector.

The strategy will be based on 4 important points: Data and Research, Creative Solutions, Educational and Product Solutions.

It is planned to do a gastronomic project with Google Arts & Culture called “Wonders and Flavors of Mexico”, campaigns on YouTube, offer tourism companies free certification courses in digital tourism and trainings and webinars.

As if all the above were not enough, Google will create a Magic Towns microsite that will be available in 2022 with content about these destinations on YouTube.
