Since last June 11, the date on which the beautification started, the heavy machinery has not stopped working, which is why tourists and locals evade passing through that street due to the danger and annoyance that this generates.

Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- Economic losses of several thousand pesos is what has generated the remodeling of Gaviotas Avenue, in the heart of the Golden Zone, argue merchants of that tourist sector.

And it is that since last June 11, the date on which the beautification started, the heavy machinery has not stopped working, which is why tourists and locals evade passing through that street due to the danger and annoyance that this generates.

Cristal Renteria, a souvenir vendor, commented that sales have dropped by up to 20 percent due to the fact that few people walk on that avenue, preferring to travel through Camarón-Sábalo or along the beach.

“Other merchants preferred to temporarily close their businesses to wait for the work that does cause annoyance to finish, but that we are sure that in a short time it will benefit us,” he confided.

When taking a tour of the place, Reacción Informativa was able to verify that, indeed, some shops look closed, however most are open but without people, not even looking at the products on offer.

Gabriela Cepeda, store manager, expressed concern because even though the port records good levels of occupancy in the hotel industry, business in that area is just not picking up.

“Look, when we sell a thousand pesos a day when in a good season we sell a lot more than that amount, but we know that this work is going to end and that is when the small entrepreneurs who have businesses in this area will recover but for now we are suffering from low sales ”, he said.
