Exige DDHPO esclarecer crímenes de odio ocurridos en Oaxaca

In addition to these two hate crimes, so far this year the DDHPO has documented five other cases of alleged violations committed against members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transvestite, Transgender, Intersexual, and Queer (LGBTTTIQ +) community.

On November 25, Geovanna, a 27-year-old trans woman, was reported missing in San Agustín Etla. Six days later – last Tuesday the 1st – she was found dead in a ravine located in the “El Campamento” area of Santiago Suchilquitongo.

On the night of that same Tuesday, Sherlyn, a stylist, was executed in the Santa María neighborhood of the former Marquesado neighborhood, in this capital, when she was preparing to close her aesthetic.

The ombudsman Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla initiated a file related to the transfeminicides of Geovanna and Sherlyn and expressed his concern at the increase in speeches and actions that constitute a threat to the rights of the LGBTTTIQ + population.

He stressed that this community faces serious conditions of discrimination, aggression, and hate crimes, making it a highly vulnerable sector.

It is essential, he said, to take all necessary measures to prevent, investigate and punish acts of violence and discrimination based on diverse gender identity, regardless of who or who commit them and in the sphere of action in which they occur, as well as offer comprehensive reparation to the victims of such acts.

In this sense, he spoke out for guaranteeing the right to justice, but also the implementation of inclusive public policies that combat prejudice, discrimination, and structural violence against LGBTTTIQ + people.

“It is essential to avoid re-victimization through the replication of heteronormative stereotypes that affect substantive advances in human rights, respect, and recognition of sexual diversity,” Rodríguez Alamilla underlined.

In response to these hate crimes, members of the LGBTTT + community marched on Friday the 4th from the source of the Eight Regions to the Zócalo of this capital, to demand justice.
