In this itinerary in Taxco we include transportation, lodging and some activities
Taxco, located in the state of Guerrero, is an ideal Magical Town for a romantic weekend without straying too far from CDMX. Its cobbled streets (and super sloping), the rich gastronomy, the silver handicrafts, and the nearby natural wonders make it a charming place, offering very diverse experiences in a single visit.
To give you an idea of how much a couple’s getaway can cost you in the near future, we put together a short itinerary. We take into account transportation, lodging, and activities.
How to get to Taxco from CDMX
By bus
A round trip for two people costs you 952 pesos in total, from Saturday to Sunday, through the ADO website. The two and a half hour journey is operated in an Estrella de Oro Pluss bus, which offers air conditioning, HD screens, and separate toilets for men and women; your seat comes with a footrest and individual audio, plus you are greeted with a complimentary drink.
By car
According to the Traza tu Ruta app of the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, the trip both outward and return costs 239 pesos in booths. In total, you would pay 478 pesos. The approximate time for the application is two and a half hours
Lodging
Airbnb
As a reference, we found an entire apartment that charges 1,719 pesos per night, considering two guests. The host is rated by the website as a “Superhost”, based on the good reviews she has received from other travelers, and also has a badge for having met the new Airbnb standards for the cleanliness of the accommodations.
It is located in the center of Taxco and the main bedroom overlooks the emblematic Temple of Santa Prisca, an 18th-century construction. The apartment has a kitchenette and crockery, a living room with a smart TV, and a terrace. On the weekend, the accommodation includes a bottle of wine.
Hotel
Los Arcos is one of the hotels in Taxco that combines a good location and an affordable price: it is less than five minutes walk from the Temple of Santa Prisca and its standard room costs you 1,480 pesos, in double occupancy (on Booking.com). It is a colonial construction with rustic decoration; It has a restaurant and terrace.
If you are going romantic, you may prefer more luxury. The boutique hotel De Cantera y Plata is a little further out of the center (so it would be convenient to bring a car), but in its independently decorated rooms it has amenities such as a pillow menu, 300-thread-count sheets, bathrobes, Nespresso coffee machine, and Bose audio system; the most exclusive suites have a terrace and an outdoor Jacuzzi. In the hotel, there is a restaurant, bar, and spa. Rates start at 4,480 per night
What to do
Of course, if you go on the weekend you have to visit the Saturday silver tianguis, where you can find all kinds of accessories and decorations at a good price. We cannot tell you an approximate amount of how much you can spend, since it all depends on the type of product you want, its weight and its preparation. However, we can give you a tip: ask if each piece is silver or “silver”, an alloy of nickel silver, and brass that is cheaper.
In the town there are cultural venues such as the Viceregal Art Museum, also known as Casa Humboldt, whose main collection is of sacred art; It also shows objects from the colonial era. The entrance costs 20 pesos per person.
Among the natural wonders closest to Taxco are the Cacahuamilpa Grottoes. On a tour of these formations, created about 85 million years ago, you see almost twenty well-lit rooms, full of stalactites and stalagmites. The maximum height inside is approximately 21 meters. The entrance cost is around 90 pesos per adult.
