After approximately 9 hours of night swimming and more than 33 kilometers, the expert open water swimmer and Triple Crown of Swimming, Mariel Hawley Davila, led her way at the crossing of the Bay of Banderas, in an act never before attempted.

She, who at the time was named a woman who opens paths, said that she hopes other swimmers will do so as well.

Mariel holds the world record for the 8 crossings in the different seas of the world and her latest achievement was here in Puerto Vallarta.

During the press conference, his achievements were received as an inspiration for the new generations of swimmers, who start in this open water swimming activity.

The odyssey

She began her swim in the sea of Cruz de Huanacaxtle at 7 pm, in what she considered “an amazing evening” .

Still, in daylight, she swam to Punta de Mita, where she was escorted by a tourist boat to a safe area.

There the starting signal was given and from that moment on you should not stop swimming, you only had 30 seconds to hydrate and receive instructions, to continue swimming without stopping, until the endpoint.

Boarding the boat would represent a penalty, as it would break the continuity of the swim, and of course, it would not count as an achievement.

Mariel swam 9 hours and 14 minutes for 33. 9 kilometers according to the GPS.

She came out of the water walking in Chimo, Cabo Corrientes, and was greeted by a pack of brave dogs, who fortunately only greeted her with barking when they saw her swim out of the sea at 4 in the morning.
