Under the motto “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”, it seeks to raise awareness about the importance of changing our consumption habits and waste management.
Riviera Nayarit’s associated hotels participate in the 2020 Recyclone, an event held every year by the Bahía de Banderas City Council with the aim of contributing to caring for the environment through the collection of electronic waste.
The collection of electronic waste started this Friday with a simple protocol act held at the Nuevo Vallarta Business Center, which was led by the municipal president, Jaime Cuevas Tello, who was accompanied by the president of the DIF Bahía de Banderas, Esperanza Berumen de Cuevas, representatives of the Cabildo and municipal officials.
On behalf of the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB) and the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (OVC), the general director, Marc Murphy, attended, who highlighted that this type of activities is generating environmental awareness among the collaborators of associated hotels, promoting the reduction, reuse and recovery of material and natural resources.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
Under the slogan “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”, this year it seeks to exceed the amount of waste collected in 2019, -which was 7 tons-, among computer equipment, television screens, DVD’s, monitors, printers, chargers, cables, batteries, telephone sets, and even refrigerators and washing machines.
In addition to the actions led by the City Council, the different municipal agencies, chambers of commerce, civil associations, and companies, including hotels in the Bahía de Banderas area, are added.
The final disposal of the waste will be in the collection centers, for its subsequent treatment and recycling.
According to the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change (INECC), in Mexico every month 29,000 tons of electronic waste or e-waste are generated, and only 14% are recycled.
It is estimated that each Mexican produces between 7 and 10 kilograms of waste per year.
