According to the head of the Sedena, Zacatecas is the communications hub between the three main arms and drug trafficking routes in the country

From the center to the Gulf and to the Pacific, the Secretary of National Defense presented a map of the main routes that organized crime uses to traffic weapons and drugs throughout the country.

According to Luis Cresencio Sandoval, head of the Sedena, the communication node between these routes is centered in the state of Zacatecas. From there, they bifurcate, in order to cover more territory.

“It is the route of drugs and weapons. Zacatecas is a communications hub, they can go to Tampico, Monterrey, Guadalajara, the La Laguna region, the Pacific part, connect to Guanajuato, Jalisco, and it becomes a communications hub, ”said the head of the Sedena.

Gulf Route

It starts from the border of Mexico with Guatemala, at the intersection of the states of Campeche and Tabasco, and goes up through all of Veracruz until it reaches Tamaulipas. There, it communicates with the Centro route and reaches Tampico. Later, it goes north and ends at the border with the United States.

Pacific Route

The route starts from the Chiapas border with Guatemala and continues north along the west bank of the country. In Jalisco, it converges with the downtown route, and from Guadalajara, it starts towards Colima, while the rest goes up towards the border cities, with Tijuana and Nogales being the destination points.

Central Route

As its name implies, it starts from the center of the country, specifically, from Mexico City and the south of Veracruz. This route heads towards Zacatecas, where it converges and connects with the Pacific route to reach Colima and, to the east, joins the Gulf route to cover Tampico. In turn, it continues northward, and divides again to end in Ciudad Juárez on one slope, and in Piedras Negras on the other.
