‘Panchito’ the elephant seal visits Mazatlán

On July 11th, an elephant seal was spotted sunbathing on the beach in San Pancho, Nayarit. The unusual visitor was nicknamed “Panchito”


The specimen was sighted last Monday, July 20 by members of the ‘Onca Expeditions’ organization; stayed more than a week at San Pancho beach.

“Panchito”, the elephant seal that came from the Southern Cone, which until a few days ago was resting on the beaches of Nayarit, was later seen in Mazatlán, Sinaloa approximately 250 kilometers away, reflecting that it is in good health.

‘Panchito’ reappears, the elephant seal that got famous in Nayarit, is now touring the beaches of Mazatlan.

According to the Marine Mammal Identification Group (GRIMMA), “Panchito” was sighted this Monday, July 20 by members of the “Onca Expeditions” organization, who shared some images on their social networks, about 250 km away in the coasts of Nayarit. This is an indication of Panchito’s good health, the fact that he is able to travel such long distances in just a few days is a good sign, “he stressed.

On July 13, the elephant seal went into the sea and no longer came out on San Pancho beach, where Panchito spent more than a week because it is in a process of skin shedding.
