Acapulco Guerrero.- The mayor of Acapulco, Adela Román Ocampo, dismissed the entire governing body of the Acapulco Drinking Water and Sewerage Commission (Capama) and the director of Ecology, after the National Water Commission (Conagua) He reported that he filed a criminal complaint with the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) for the sewage that was dumped on Icacos beach on June 25.

Through a video on her social networks, the mayor reported that she asked for the resignation of all Capama executives, including director Leonel Galindo González, to carry out a financial and administrative audit of that body.

He said he will also initiate an investigation to find out which buildings dump sewage clandestinely and illegally into the bay.
He warned that they close the buildings to which I verify that they discharge sewage into the bay.

Conagua files a criminal complaint for the dumping of wastewater in Acapulco.

He also asked for the resignation of the director of municipal Ecology, Guadalupe Rivas Pérez.

The mayor announced that she will also file a criminal complaint for “sabotage” against Capama and will sanction the officials and workers who were “omitted” in the dumping of sewage into the bay.

On June 25, a video was broadcast on social networks where it is seen how sewage flows into Icacos beach. In the images it is observed how a black spot mixes with the sea.

From March to July, the beaches of Acapulco were closed due to the Covid-19 health emergency. The closure and the absence of visitors caused that they will begin to be cleaned and, even, it has to take an emerald tone.

According to a report by Capama, in the entire bay of Acapulco there are 22 discharge points for sewage.

For these discharges, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has declared different Acapulco beaches as unfit for human use due to high pollution.

This Tuesday, Conagua reported that it filed a criminal complaint for the crime of environmental damage against Capama.

In a statement, he reported that he carried out sample surveys to determine the level of contamination at Icacos beach.

“The results of the analyzes carried out by the Laboratory of the Water Quality Management of the central offices of Conagua on the samples collected indicate a violation of the applicable regulations, for which an administrative proceeding was initiated against Capama, the body responsible for operate wastewater treatment plants and the municipality’s sewage system, “said Conagua.

The agency explained that the samples were collected in the channel located on Carabela Santa María street, which was dumped into the Acapulco bay on Icacos Beach, and six samplings were also made in the waters of the bay, three in the coast and three 100 meters offshore.

Conagua also reported that it filed a criminal complaint for the crime of environmental damage “to the detriment of Acapulco society and the Federation, before the Attorney General of the Republic.”
