MAZATLAN.- A group of surfers or “surfers” demonstrated on Friday morning, publicly asking to be allowed to access the beach to do their sport.

The protest was in the letters of Mazatlán, next to the Valentino disco. They showed banners where they put their requests.

The beaches are still closed to people, as part of the measures against the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The surfers ask that they be allowed to enter the beach from 6:00 to 10:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00.

One of the surfers, Miguel, commented that this is a sport for them, which allows them to be healthy, and also they do not make crowds that generate risks of coronavirus infections.

They questioned that the authority allows the agglomeration of people in places such as banks and stores of alcoholic beverages, but that they do not allow surfers access to the beaches, where there is plenty of space to keep a healthy distance.

The surfers criticized that 11 of their comrades have already been arrested, for having gone surfing.

Close to the surfers was Jorge Contreras, head of the municipal Operator and Administrator of Beaches, who commented that the demonstration was very respectable, but the beaches will not be opened to people as long as the state authorities do not authorize it.

He insisted that the beaches were closed due to a health issue, of avoiding Covid-19 coronavirus infections.
