Double blow for business owners of Mazatlan’s Zona Dorada

Business owners in the area of Mazatlan’s Zona Dorada declare that they were affected by both the remodeling of Camarón Sábalo Avenue and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Their businesses must not only withstand the economic crisis unleashed by the coronavirus health emergency, but also the inconvenience caused by the remodeling of the Avenue.

Business owners of the Golden Zone of Mazatlán are hoping for the recovery of the economy, but they believe that, for them, it will take longer to arrive, since the Camarón Sábalo Avenue undergoing renovation is not finished yet.

Businesses located on the “main street” of the Golden Zone are empty.

Businesses considered as essential, have not been making any profits for more than two months now, and due to the remodeling of the Camarón Sábalo Avenue, it will take longer for them to reopen.

“The sales has been very scarce, customers have to park their cars far away,” explained Natalia Domínguez, who dispatches a pharmacy on Avenida Camarón Sábalo.

One of the lucky businesses is the sushi restaurant located on Avenida Gaviotas, as this street was not closed down.

But a neighboring store located on Camarón Sábalo tells a totally different story.

“This is a double blow for us, first the avenue remodeling and then the coronavirus epidemic, many businesses are reopening and they already have people, but we continue the same,” said Joel López, business administrator.
