Mazatlan shows an upward trend in infections says Sinaloa Governor

MAZATLÁN.- In Culiacán, the coronavirus transmission curve has been flattening, but in Mazatlán it is growing, but efforts are being made to stop this, and it depends on the people who manage to stop the infections, stressed Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel, interviewed this Saturday in Culiacán.

He added that they are evaluating the revival of productive activities in Mazatlán in the first 10 days, but the conditions are well analyzed, and he recognizes that many people need to work and companies need to reactivate.

Q.- Governor, the number of cases that have increased here in Mazatlán and Culiacán, mainly, is alarming.

R.- There has been a curve, in the case of Culiacán it has been flattening, but if we see it compared to the total population of Mazatlán, which is 600 thousand inhabitants, it has been growing, but everything is being done the effort. Here it depends a lot on people taking good care of their distance, hygiene habits and all the protection mechanisms, in all of this it will depend a lot and I have great confidence in the people of Sinaloa.

Q.- Governor, there are those who believe that if the obligatory quarantine had been carried out in the country, we would already be leaving, we would already be lowering the epidemiological curve, what opinion deserves to further radicalize the measures?

R.- For example, here in Mazatlán there was a very good decision to have closed the hotels, the beaches at Easter and Easter, if not, imagine how all this would have gotten. It would have multiplied. There are many opinions, there are many expressions, points of view. All the decisions that have to be made have been made, but it depends a lot on what each one does.

Whom we have to protect more, take greater care of older adults who have chronic diseases, pregnant women. They cannot return to work, they must be kept where they are with all the care because they are the ones who have and are more exposed, more sensitive.

Q.- In economic matters, what is going to be done to help the hotels? Because everyone wants to open, but the question is whether tourism will be able to come, whether there will be money in the country for them to come.

A.- There is an economic crisis, it will have to be activated, but in balance with health. The priority has been health, but today we have another great challenge, which is the economy. Together with the President of Mazatlán (Luis Benítez), to whom I wish a speedy recovery, I have been chatting with him and I am very grateful that here is Dr. Sandoval, from the Hospitalito, who is representing him who has a speedy recovery. . It has been serviced very well, it is going very well, and soon I am sure that it will be active again.

In addition, with the economic sectors to go seeing in the case of hospitality, in the case of a whole process of gradual reopening, with intelligence, with prudence because people will not come overnight either, but we do need to open where all the protocols are given, all the care. That there are antibacterial gels, that in restaurants there are fewer tables. Here in Mazatlán the restaurants are not closed, it is intended that there are fewer tables. The same in hotels and that the social distance is carefully taken care of, the same on the beaches.

Q.- There is already a date.

R.- Beginning of June, I think, around June 7, 8, but it depends a lot on building, on building this whole planning process, reactivation because summer is coming and we need the economy to improve to protect employment, so that It is very good for people not to lose their job anymore, because there are people who have lost their jobs, who are earning less.

A great effort has been made by the restaurateurs, the hoteliers. There are many restaurants, small businesses that will not be able to open, and if this is closed any longer, they will not be able to open more hotels, that is the reality. Banks are offering credit, they say ‘I give you wool’, but it is to borrow nothing else, where are you going to pay ?.

Q.- This date would be for hotels and beaches.

R.- We are seeing, precisely, we are even discussing and raising it at the national level also because we know that these are the dates when the tourist centers are going to open. We, unlike Los Cabos, here tourism comes by road and that is an advantage. It arrives there by plane and the reactivation will be slower because the borders will be open until June 20.

Q.- With the foreign market, what are you going to do? Because they are not going to come fast.

R.- They will not come quickly. We have a national market, 80 percent of our market is national, what’s more, right now the foreigner with the heat is no longer coming. Yes, a flight from Canada has been maintained, but we will continue fighting for them to come next winter.

Q.- Will the support continue, Governor, for families in the most vulnerable sectors?

A.- Yes, through the food program that we are promoting, it has been very well received. They are 350 pesos that you are giving support to the most needy people in vulnerable areas, marginalized so that they can choose their products among 17 products in Law and that we are going to do these days.

Q.- There is an initiative by the PRI to charge 2 thousand pesos to those who do not bring the mask, what opinion does he deserve?

A.- They are expressions, they are points of view. Let us leave that in the field where Congress is.

R.- No van a venir rápido.
