Mazatlan, Sinaloa. At least 85 elements of the Mazatlan Tourist Police will be trained in basic English language issues, said the Director of the Tourist Assistance and Protection CenterCAPTA, Astrid Macías Fregoso.

She said the pilot project aims to enable personnel to respond in an efficient, fast and timely manner to all emergency calls that are submitted by the foreign community.

The official said that the reports attended are both people from other countries living in Mazatlan, as well as those who visit the port throughout the year.

The agents to be trained correspond to 37 elements of the preventive police, 21 of tourist traffic and 25 of the Aquatic Rescue Squad.

So far, the attention provided by CAPTA staff has decreased up to 50 percent compared to the more than 400 reports they received during the past holiday period.
