The summit of the Pacific Alliance culminates this Saturday with the presence of the presidents of Peru, Chile and Colombia, who plan to sign several declarations among which stands out one that seeks the sustainable management of plastics.
The Peruvian chancellery, host of the event, announced that in the afternoon along with the announced declaration in favor of free trade in the midst of the trade war between the United States and China, an important declaration will also be signed in favor of reducing the use of plastics that end up in an annual amount of eight million tons in the world’s oceans, according to figures from the United Nations.
The summit also receives as special guest the president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, whose country seeks to join the bloc that adds 37% of the gross domestic product of Latin America and the Caribbean.
An agreement for a credit fund for 300 million dollars could also be signed to support the medium and small companies of the bloc so that they can improve their products and thus be able to overcome the demands of exports.
WHAT IS THE PACIFIC ALLIANCE?
The Pacific Alliance is a trade bloc created in 2011 by Colombia, Chile, Mexico, and Peru to increase its trade, especially with the large Asian market. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador did not attend the meeting, who, according to the Peruvian Foreign Ministry, fulfills an electoral promise not to be absent from his country during his first year in office. In his replacement came the foreign minister of that country, Marcelo Ebrard.
Peru, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico, with a total population of 225 million people, together account for more than half of regional trade (52%) and account for 45% of direct foreign investment, according to official data from the bloc.
