ACTIVISTS COMPLAIN: DEPUTIES LEGISLATE WITH THE BIBLE AND DO NOT RESPECT HUMAN RIGHTS.
Again the local deputies refused to approve the equal marriage. Thus, “hundreds of same-sex couples are still defenseless because there are those who legislate with the bible,” recited Ezequiel Garcia, representative of the Gay Community of Durango.
Last Thursday, the Human Rights Commission met, which was attended only by three deputies, one from the National Action Party (PAN), another from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), and one from the National Regeneration Movement (Morena).
After analyzing two initiatives on equal marriage that were in the commission, they only agreed to revisit them to take the best of both. However, they did not agree on a date to do so, reproached the activist.
In an interview he commented that hundreds of same-sex couples were waiting for this session since the mood was positive, but this new delay has shocked the members of the gay community.
In the session of the commission two days ago, the deputy Alicia Gamboa asked that the equal marriage is not called marriage, but the advisers of the H. Congress of the State informed him that it is impossible.
On marriage, in 2015 the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), established in resolution 1a./J. 43/2015 that “the law of any federative entity, which on the one hand considers that the purpose of that is procreation and / or that defines it as that which is celebrated between a man and a woman, is unconstitutional”.
Before this answer the deputy requested that again consultations or forums with the population take place, same that also remembered to him, already they were realized in the 2016.
It is worth mentioning that the session did not have the representative of the Labor Party (PT), which is Rigoberto Quiñonez Samaniego.
Ezequiel García argued that the conservative behavior of local deputies has a direct impact on the well-being of homoparental and lesbo-parent families, as well as same-sex couples who hope to marry to provide social security and access other rights, which until now in Durango they are not reality.
“They think that we only want to make a wedding but it is about the hundreds of families of diversity without guarantees, without protections, without legal certainty, we will continue in the struggle, which does not end because the deputies say no,” he warned.
