Direct flight Istanbul-Mexico City start in August

Starting in August, the Turkish Airlines airline will put into operation the direct flight from Istanbul, Turkey, to Mexico City and to Cancun.

The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, said that this new flight represents a great opportunity to boost tourism of high purchasing power of that nation and India.

When meeting with the Turkish ambassador to our country, Tahsin Timur Söylemez, the federal official revealed that tourist spending of Turkish visitors in Mexico was 9.9 million dollars in 2017 and 11.6 million dollars in 2018, which represented an increase of 17.4 percent; while in the same period tourism from India spent 59 million dollars and 75.3 million dollars, respectively, which translated into a 27.5 percent increase in this area.

“In 2017, 10 thousand 874 Turkish tourists arrived in Mexico by air, and in 2018 it was 12 thousand 582, which meant an increase of 15.7 percent.”

The terminal of Istanbul, recognized Torruco Marqués, is an air distribution center in that region, very important for emerging markets to the American continent.

He added that 64 thousand 921 tourists of Indian origin arrived in 2017, and the following year they added 81 thousand 530 visitors of that nation, an increase of 25.6 percent.

The arrival of Turkish visitors to the country occupied position 50 of the total arrivals per nationality last year, while that of Indian tourists ranked 22nd out of the total number of arrivals per nationality.

The arrival of travelers from Asian countries to Mexico last year was led by China, with 24.8 percent of visitors; Japan, 23.1; South Korea, with 18.1; India, 12.0; Israel, 6.9; Philippines, 2.6, and Turkey, with 1.9 percent.
