Until a more competitive rate is achieved that is more profitable, the big chains will not invest in the destination

Mazatlan, Sinaloa .- The vice president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies, Carlos Berdegué Sacristán, said Mazatlan is a very cheap destination compared to the vast majority of destinations in Mexico.

He explained that Mazatlan rates are lower than Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos, in the latter is at least 30% higher.

The Mazatlan rates are very low compared to other tourist destinations, so the businesses for the big chains are not so profitable.

Berdegué Sacristan commented that hotel rates are very dynamic in the world, some have up to 250, and everything is due to supply and demand.

He exemplified that for the week of Easter, May and June, the rates go down a lot, for the second week of July the last rise a lot, in August they go down, September go down more, October goes back down to attract congresses and conventions, November and December return to go up for foreign tourism, although these pay lower rates.

“There are hotels that have $250 rates, because it depends where they give the room, whether it’s Monday to Wednesday, Thursday to Saturday, everything included, whether banquets, weddings, depends a lot, there are segments that pay lower rates than others”, express.

He acknowledged that until a more competitive rate is reached, that it is more profitable, the big chains will continue investing in other destinations and not in Mazatlan.

He pointed out that Sheraton, Hilton, Westin, and other big companies that pull in flights, that have growth, are going to invest in Mazatlan.
