CULIACÁN Sinaloa– Even in death, Mexico’s drug lords can’t resist showing off the enormous power and wealth.
In a cemetery on the outskirts of Culiacán, capital of the Mexican state of Sinaloa and home of the infamous cartel of the same name, some of the most elaborate and expensive mausoleums in the world mark the final resting place of dozens of former ‘narcotraficantes’ – or narcos.
The Narco Saint
Jesús Malverde is an apocryphal saint very popular in Mexico and who has already exported to other countries with drug activity. He has a chapel in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Now Malverde not only has chapels and is international, but there is also an uncountable number of famous narco corridos in his honor and even a beer that bears his name.
