Are you feeling tired? Do you feel like you’re lacking energy? Wheat germ might be the solution to this problem. Wheat germ is recommended to all those people who need energy boost in their diet, for example, pregnant women, students at the end of a semester, people working out in a gym, or old people. Some doctors are considered wheat germ as a nutrition treasure since it is rich in protein, essential fatty acids and vitamins.

We have to get out of our minds the idea that only eggs, meat or milk are protein sources for our bodies. Cereals are protein rich and wheat germ is a good example of that too. A single egg contains around 6 grams of protein and five spoons full of wheat germ provide 16 grams of protein, much more than a single egg. It’s said that vegetal protein is not complete or not of the same quality as that found in meat, but as long as we consume protein from beans, lentils, soy, peas or chickpea, the protein formed in the body will be of the same quality as the ones formed by eating meat.

Wheat germ is also rich in Omega-3. Let’s keep in mind that the human body also needs fat since it’s also an energy source, but there is bad and good fat. Essential Fatty Acids Omega-3 protect us against heart attacks and cardiovascular accidents since they don’t allow coagulation within the blood vessels. Let’s not forget that the second cause of death in Mexico is due to heart ischemic illness. So we must distance ourselves, avoid or reduce animal fat (red meat) consumption, and include good fat in our diet, such as dry fruit, fish, olive oil, avocado and wheat germ.

Vitamins are tiny and small but they are also essential for many body functions, Vitamin B9 (folic acid) and Vitamin E are contained in wheat germ. The first one helps for the correct development of the fetus (in preganant women of course), and strengthens the red blood cells, The second one is number one enemy of premature ageing because it is an antioxidant which helps regenerate tissues and stops (or delays) the downfall or decay of the body in the old age.

So, if you are looking for food that may give you vitality, wheat germ is the solution, only three spoonfuls a day, in a shake or mixed with yoghurt, will give you those benefits. Only those who are gluten intolerant should avoid it but among other people such as children, teenagers, pregnant women, adults and the elderly can enjoy the benefits of this “super food” which is a source of all kinds of good things for the human being.
