With a ton and a half of crustacean Mazatlan, Sinaloa aims to achieve another Guinness Record of the largest shrimp cocktail in the world on December 1, informed the president of the Tres Islas Hotel Association, José Ramón Manguart Sánchez.
“It can be said that what is the tequila for Jalisco, the shrimp is for Mazatlan,” he said, “to understand the importance of the seafood issue. That has allowed us to say that Mazatlan is the shrimp capital of the world. ”
He explained that the event will be held by the Association of Three Islands Hotels and the cost will be covered by the state resources of the promotion, which is obtained by charging 3 percent of the Pro Lodging Tax charged in the hotels.
On September 27, 2011, Mazatlan achieved the Guinness World Tourism Day record, with 538.5 kilos of shrimp from the high seas for the cocktail, but on July 19, 2015, it was surpassed by Cartagena Colombia when it was made with a thousand 320 kilos of weight.
In that year, it took a year for the construction of the giant acrylic sheet, which is with the supplier in Mexico, to make it larger.
It measured 1.91 meters, and it is planned to increase it to 2.60 to 2.70 meters in height, and had a measure of approximately 1.50 meters in diameter.
Manguart said that this event involves involving local brands, participating with the bags of toast and the different supplies that the cocktail will require as well as its distribution to more than a thousand people.
The process of making the cocktail requires at least ten to twelve hours of time in which at least 400 students of the School of Gastronomy will participate, he said.
“For it to be a record it has to be all on the same day, in front of the Guinness verifier,” explained Manguart.
The venue is not yet defined but could be in the park of The Sister Cities or across the boardwalk, in front of the Fisherman’s Monument or Convention Center.
He commented that there is an approach on the part of the state to adhere to the destinations that are part of the gastronomic landscape of UNESCO.
“It is in a proposal for the cuisine of Sinaloa within the gastronomic landscape of UNESCO, the three elements that most people are looking for that come to Mazatlan is the beach, the boardwalk, and the gastronomy,” he said.
This would be like an acknowledgment of something that is very appreciated by the Mazatlecos, he said, because somehow always when people come they are impressed by the seafood here, taste, the seafood theme is our strength in the gastronomic area.
The hotelier said that the organization of the event will be fine-tuned, the cocktail preparation will be started from dawn and that he will be ready at a ceremony on the night in which there will be a musical concert.
To get a Guinness verifier to come, you have to send the recipe, put a date, schedule, once authorized, you have to make a payment.
He said that although the next day could be a giant “michelada” that category does not exist in the Guinness Record
