According to official reports, the incident occurred in the Sábalo 2 beach area, in front of the Sábalo Country residential development, where the swimmer struggled to get out of the water after being pulled under by a rip current.

Members of the Aquatic Rescue Squad responded immediately to the emergency call and entered the water to assist the man, later identified as 44-year-old Luis Arturo. After several minutes of maneuvers, they managed to bring him to shore.

At the scene, the rescuers began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross arrived. The paramedics continued medical attention and then transported him to the General Hospital of Mazatlán.

However, his condition worsened during the journey, and upon arrival at the hospital around 1:00 p.m., the tourist no longer had vital signs, presumably due to drowning.

Municipal Civil Protection and Municipal Public Security Secretariat personnel also arrived at the scene and provided support during the emergency.

Subsequently, personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office took charge of the corresponding procedures and ordered the transfer of the body to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for the legally required autopsy.

The commander of the Aquatic Rescue Squad, Gustavo Espinoza Bastidas, reported that the rescue was carried out promptly; however, the conditions in which the swimmer was found complicated his recovery.

Authorities reiterated their call to tourists and locals to respect the instructions of lifeguards and to avoid entering the sea when risky conditions exist, in order to prevent these types of tragedies.
