Sinaloa has hosted 24 congresses and conventions so far in 2016, with nearly 52,000 attendees and an economic impact of over 255 million pesos, as announced by Mireya Sosa Osuna, the state’s Secretary of Tourism, on Tuesday, March 23, 2016.
The official noted that Sinaloa is a leading destination for meetings tourism, with events covering academic, agro-industrial, and sporting sectors in its various municipalities.

“The meetings industry strengthens regional economic development and promotes innovation and sustainability in our municipalities. Under the vision of our governor, Rubén Rocha Moya, a great supporter of tourism, we are committed to creating unique experiences and strengthening infrastructure to continue consolidating our position as a world-class destination in the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector,” she stated.
Mireya Sosa added that in Mazatlán alone, from January 1st to March 23rd, 20 events have been held with more than 15,000 attendees and an economic impact exceeding 163 million pesos. She said that the port currently has more than 150 venues for events, ranging from hotel ballrooms to dedicated event spaces.

Sosa Osuna emphasized that last year, the meetings industry was a key pillar in the state, with 191 events, more than 320,000 attendees, and an economic impact exceeding 3.4 billion pesos.
The Secretary of Tourism in Sinaloa noted that upcoming events include the International Motorcycle Week, from April 8th to 11th; the Beer Live Fest, to be held on April 25th; and the Chayanne concert, scheduled for May 2nd; among other activities that will significantly boost the local economy.
The Sinaloa Tourism Secretariat highlights several venues for the meetings industry, including the Convention Center, a modern and versatile space with a capacity of up to 4,500 people; the Gran Acuario Mazatlán Mar de Cortes, with a capacity of 1,200 people in its garden; the Observatorio 1873 (500 people); the Teatro Ángela Peralta (800 people); the Museo Nacional de la Ballena (250 people); the Club de Playa Shekinah (800 people); the El Encanto soccer stadium (25,000 spectators); and the Teodoro Mariscal stadium (16,000 spectators).
