The Mazatlán International Carnival will celebrate its 128th edition from February 12th to 17th, with an expected attendance of 1.26 million people and an estimated economic impact of 1.1 billion pesos, reported Michelle Aguilar, Undersecretary of Tourism for the State of Sinaloa, during her visit to Torreón to promote the event.
The official noted that, given visitors’ concerns about transportation safety, an operation similar to last year’s will be implemented, with checkpoints along the highway connecting Coahuila and Sinaloa, to ensure a safe journey to the port city during the carnival.
Aguilar detailed that the program includes massive concerts during the coronations, featuring Edén Muñoz at the coronation of the King of Joy, Yuridia at the coronation of the Carnival Queen, and Belinda and Lara Campos at the coronation of the Children’s Queen. In addition, Germán Lizárraga will participate in a special tribute in collaboration with the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra of the Arts.
As part of the main activities, two parades will be held, one on Sunday and the other on Tuesday, featuring more than 32 floats, as well as dance troupes competing, including one from Torreón.
Regarding hotel occupancy, he indicated that as of last month, it was at 75 percent, with projections to reach up to 86 percent during the carnival. Most visitors will be domestic, mainly from neighboring states, although international tourism is also expected, particularly from the United States and Canada.
He also highlighted the air connectivity with the new Torreón–Mazatlán route, which operates on Thursday and Sunday afternoons, with fares ranging from approximately 1,000 to 1,200 pesos, depending on the seat.
Finally, he reiterated the invitation to the people of La Laguna to attend the Mazatlán International Carnival, which in addition to concerts and parades includes the traditional naval battle, one of the most representative spectacles of this festival.
