With 22 days to go until the start of the Mazatlán International Carnival, hoteliers in the port city are reporting strong reservations and positive expectations for the days of the city’s biggest celebration, considered one of Sinaloa’s main tourist attractions.

Good Hotel Occupancy Expectations for Mazatlán Carnival
The president of the Tres Islas Hotel Association, José Ramón Manguart, reported that occupancy is currently above 70 percent, although he noted that historically many visitors arrive at the last minute, which could raise the figure even further.

The hotelier agreed with the Sales Director of Grupo Pueblo Bonito, José Gámez, that they estimate reaching at least 85 percent hotel occupancy, with the possibility of exceeding that percentage, especially during Carnival Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The 2026 Mazatlán International Carnival, to be held from February 12 to 17 under the slogan “Arriba La Tambora” (Long Live the Drum), anticipates a greater influx of domestic tourists, who have shown increasing interest in booking their accommodations well in advance.

Gámez recalled that last year saw excellent occupancy levels, although many reservations were made at the last minute. However, he emphasized that this year visitor behavior has been different, with people booking their reservations earlier, which is generating better expectations for the hotel sector.

The Sales Director of Grupo Pueblo Bonito highlighted that this year’s lineup is very attractive, both for the coronations of the Carnival queens, king, and queens, as well as for the shows scheduled in the Olas Altas area, which represents a strong incentive for tourism.

Regarding security, José Ramón Manguart indicated that he went to City Hall to request authorization for extended hours during the festivities.

When questioned about the insecurity, he called on authorities at all three levels of government to reinforce security operations, especially on the highways leading to Mazatlán, given the increase in visitors.

The hotel association leader stated that they have not yet been invited to meetings with security forces, although he reiterated that the hotel sector is willing to collaborate in any way necessary.

He recalled that security was reinforced last year both in the city and on the highways, and therefore he is confident that the same strategy will be maintained this year to ensure a safe and successful Carnival.
