With the arrival of 600 elements of the National Defense Secretariat to Sinaloa this Saturday, Mayor Edgar Gonzalez Zatarain said that the reinforcement of security in Mazatlan with the armed forces will generate greater tranquility among the population.

Interviewed during a supervision tour of the work in the Hacienda del Seminario subdivision, the mayor spoke about the arrival of the military elements as part of the National Public Security Strategy and the Zero Impunity policy of the Federal Government.

He said that according to the information he has, the military are coming to strengthen security in Mazatlan, Concordia, Rosario and Escuinapa.

“The fact that they are in Mazatlan is already a gain. Yes, it is needed because people are afraid, because people are now in a situation of doubt, so this comes to reinforce, to give them more tranquility and above all more security, I hope that this is how it turns out and obviously everything that we can contribute to the issue of security. The issue of strengthening security is always very welcome, always.”

The mayor rejected the idea that the arrival of more Army elements to Mazatlán could send a negative message to investors and tourists, who, seeing the reinforcement of security, could consider that the situation will get worse or decide not to come to the port.

“Normally this type of reinforcement comes to help in areas where conflicts could occur, but not in the tourist area and there is no reason for it. The truth is that these are difficult times that need to be strengthened, we would also be wrong to sit back and wait for everything to happen.”
