After the City Council session approved the elimination of the Municipal Entrepreneur Institute, the mayor of Mazatlán, Edgar González Zatarain, said that the same could happen with other offices, or some of them might just be reassigned to another department.
The mayor highlighted that one area they want to streamline is the Casa Hogar, which will be sent to the DIF system, and other dependencies will be sent to the Economic Development department.
“One of the things we are looking to streamline is the Casa Hogar, which needs to be adjusted to the programs, either going to the DIF or another area, but we can’t have a lot of areas, or what we did with Economic Development, we downgraded it to a department, cut staff and budget, because it doesn’t require such a large structure.”
The mayor noted that the council is working to improve and make institutions more efficient, and therefore some of them will disappear or be adjusted, such as CAPTA, which will be sent to the Economic Development and Tourism office, as well as the Beach Operator and Administrator office, if it is not eliminated. If any entrepreneur wants to take it over, it should be an honorary organization, he said.
Edgar González mentioned that having fewer dependencies means more budget for basic public services such as water, drainage, garbage collection, security, among others.
