Acuatletas and open water swimmers train in Mazatlán

The Durango delegation of acuatletas and open water swimmers participated in the 1st National Open Water Swimming and Acuatlon Circuit, which took place in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, on January 13 and 14.

The event was organized by the Mexican Federation of Triathlon and the Sinaloa Institute of Sport, with the support of the Municipal Sports Institute of Mazatlán and the Municipal Sports Council of Mazatlán.

The competition consisted of two modalities: open water swimming and acuatlon. The open water swimming was held on Saturday, January 13, at the beach of the Hotel Playa Mazatlán, with distances of 1.25, 2.5 and 5 kilometers. The acuatlon was held on Sunday, January 14, at the same venue, with distances of 2.5 kilometers of running, 1 kilometer of swimming and 2.5 kilometers of running.

The Durango delegation was composed of 12 athletes, who obtained the following results:

  • In the open water swimming of 1.25 kilometers, Luis Fernando García won the first place in the category of 15-19 years old, with a time of 16 minutes and 58 seconds. María Fernanda García won the second place in the same category, with a time of 18 minutes and 9 seconds. Jesús Eduardo García won the third place in the category of 20-24 years old, with a time of 17 minutes and 10 seconds.
  • In the open water swimming of 2.5 kilometers, Luis Fernando García won the first place in the category of 15-19 years old, with a time of 34 minutes and 8 seconds. María Fernanda García won the second place in the same category, with a time of 37 minutes and 10 seconds. Jesús Eduardo García won the third place in the category of 20-24 years old, with a time of 35 minutes and 12 seconds.
  • In the open water swimming of 5 kilometers, Luis Fernando García won the first place in the category of 15-19 years old, with a time of 1 hour, 9 minutes and 30 seconds. María Fernanda García won the second place in the same category, with a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 50 seconds. Jesús Eduardo García won the third place in the category of 20-24 years old, with a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 40 seconds.
  • In the acuatlon of 2.5 kilometers of running, 1 kilometer of swimming and 2.5 kilometers of running, Luis Fernando García won the first place in the category of 15-19 years old, with a time of 32 minutes and 20 seconds. María Fernanda García won the second place in the same category, with a time of 35 minutes and 40 seconds. Jesús Eduardo García won the third place in the category of 20-24 years old, with a time of 33 minutes and 50 seconds.

The Durango delegation was accompanied by the coach José Luis García, who expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his pupils and thanked the support of the Durango Sports Institute and the Durango Triathlon Association. He also said that this event served as preparation for the next national and international competitions.
