The State Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks of Sinaloa analyzed the water quality not only in Playa Olas Altas but in all the beaches of Mazatlán to know about their situation

MAZATLÁN. – Playa Olas Altas is free of contamination and ready for use and enjoyment of its visitors, as reported by the State Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks of Sinaloa.

This after Coepriss and the Municipal Board of Drinking Water and Sewerage of Mazatlán took the necessary water samples for their quality monitoring since last December 15.

“According to the new results obtained from the study of the water sampling taken from the Mazatlan beaches on December 15, 18 and 19 showed that the sampled area is suitable for public enjoyment, leaving the beach committee the decision or the initiative to reopen the beach”. This arose after a health contingency in Playa Olas Altas, being among the six beaches in Mexico outside the ranges established by the World Health Organization for recreational use.

The samples were taken, explained the state agency, with the purpose of guaranteeing the health of vacationers and the general population, where they reinforced prevention and monitoring measures of the water quality especially in Olas Altas.

What happened?

On December 18, it was announced by Cofepris that the beaches of Rosarito and Tijuana, in Baja California; Linda and Escolleras, in Tapachula Chiapas; Olas Altas, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa; and El Bosque, in Centla, Tabasco are outside the ranges established by the WHO for recreational use.

The six mentioned exceeded the maximum limits of 200 enterococci in 100 milliliters of water, in accordance with the guidelines of the WHO.
