The van in which they were traveling collided with a trailer transporting kiwi; Neighbors of the community of Palmillas, in Escuinapa, stole half of the load
Escuinapa, Sinaloa.- Two people of Canadian nationality were injured when they collided with a trailer transporting kiwifruit at kilometer 149 of the Mazatlán-Tepic highway, near the community of Ojo de Agua Palmillas, south of Escuinapa.
According to the report of facts, a trailer with a box, in which it was transporting the fruit, was traveling along the north-south lane of the Mazatlán-Tepic highway, but upon reaching kilometer 149, near the community of Palmillas collided with a van-type unit driven by Canadians Jean-Philippe Laverdière and his companion Claire Létourneau, causing the van to overturn and the trailer to remain crossed on the road.
Residents of the Palmillas community went to the area where the damaged trailer was to open it and begin taking the boxes containing the kiwis.
Paramedics arrived at the scene from the municipality of Acaponeta, Nayarit, who helped the foreign couple and transported them to the Escuinapa General Hospital to receive medical attention. The injuries suffered by both Canadians are unknown.
Upon hearing about the accident on the highway, residents of the Palmillas community went to the area where the accident trailer was to open it and begin taking the boxes containing the kiwis. They managed to empty half of the refrigerated box that the trailer was dragging, before the arrival of preventive elements from Escuinapa and the National Guard Highway Division.
The elements of the National Guard Highway Division were in charge of flagging traffic on both sides of the highway until the two units were removed.
