Students from the Mazatlán III campus in Sinaloa competed with young people from around the world who presented projects in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation
Sinaloa. – They are Sinaloan pride! Students from Conalep Sinaloa were winners of the silver medal in the 2023 edition of the Expo for Young Scientists in South Africa with the ABI project, a software that seeks to provide skills to primary school children so that they can identify the risks of sexual abuse.
The students of the Mazatlán III campus were developing the ABI project for more than two years, and the work of the students Kareidi Jazmín Olivas Pérez, Rubén Jared Aguilar Hernández, and the advisors Rosa Elena Moraila Rodríguez and Joel Jared Tirado Beltrán, bore fruit with this achievement.
ABI was created as educational software with the intention of developing cognitive skills, also called personal protection resources (crucial for the prevention of child sexual abuse), which allow boys and girls between 4 and 7 years old to have the ability to identify when someone puts their integrity at risk.
Specifically, ABI is a reliable tool in the prevention of Child Sexual Abuse. This program was developed in HTML5 format and programmed in Java script language, for easy use, without the need to use the Internet to run the program.
This project had its first participation in the ExpoCiencias Sinaloa, in September 2022, where an accreditation was obtained to compete in the ExpoCiencias Nacional, in San Luis Potosí, in December of the same year, a competition where an accreditation was obtained again, now at the fair international event called ESKOM Expo for Young Scientists 2023, which was held from October 2 to 6 of this year in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The organizers of this important science fair, in which a total of 330 young local scientists from 11 regions of South Africa participated, noted that the finalists have demonstrated exceptional talent and passion for science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation (STEMI).
Among all the finalist projects, Kareidi and Rubén were the only Mexican and Latino participants, competing with innovative projects that cover a wide range of topics, from environmental conservation to cutting-edge technological solutions that promise to have a positive impact on our world, hence the utmost importance that the students of this state school have obtained the coveted second place.
The young people from Sinaloa competed in the social and humanities category, which in the international area, a total of 20 young people from the countries of Ghana, India, Kenya, Lesotho, Mexico, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Indonesia and Turkey participated.
