Sinaloa recovers 82% of international and national flights

MAZATLÁN.- Airport activity in Sinaloa is looking good for the end of the year, and after a health contingency and border restrictions due to Covid-19, the state has already managed to recover around 82 percent of the canceled flights, as reported by the Undersecretary of Planning, Investment and Tourism Development of the Ministry of Tourism. Juan José Ruiz González.

He expressed that, during 2020, approximately 70 percent of these flights were canceled, mainly international ones with Canada, stopping all flights, managing to recover it a couple of months ago.

“On the one hand, there is connectivity with the United States that was not lost, it was maintained as of July 2020; In the case of Canada, the Canadian government unilaterally decided to stop sending planes to all countries and completely closed its borders, ”he said.

What flights were recovered?

As of October, the first arrivals of West Jet were had, then Sunwing Airlines arrived, and Swoop, in such a way that, according to the state official, there are 5 recovered flights and it is expected that in the next months of 2022 new routes can be recovered.

Currently, they already have a connection with Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver and are looking to reopen Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal, all from Canada.

Mazatlán and San Francisco reconnect

Juan José Ruíz González also added that the port managed to regain connectivity that had not been available for more than five years, it is the direct route to San Francisco by Alaska Airlines, which will enter into operation as of December 18.

“It is a market with a very high purchasing power, we are talking about 5 million people who live in that area; Furthermore, it was the first flight with which Alaska Airlines had connectivity with Mexico and it is recovering after many years, that is very good news for Mazatlán ”, he said.

As for the nautical tourism that was reactivated as of October of this year, 2021 could close with a total of 65 cruises, but by 2022, it is expected to receive up to 160 ships, which would be a historical record for Mazatlán.
