About the Day of Holy Innocents

According to the Christian bible, King Herod ordered for all boys in Bethlehem who were two years old and under to be executed in an attempt to kill Jesus. Today, the Feast of the Holy Innocents is celebrated in churches worldwide.

The media also get involved by reporting news that is too ridiculous or funny to be true, all in good fun. Some Mexicans visit cemeteries with offerings to souls of departed children, in line with a pre-Hispanic tradition.

With the passage of time, the word “innocent” has been taken as “naive”, so it is customary to make some kind of joke based on deception on some subject in order to “fool” someone using the phrase “Innocent little dove that you let yourself be fooled” (Inocente palomita que te dejaste engañar), making evident that everything has been a joke.
