Guadalajara, Jalisco, (September 22, 2020) – The Jalisco Plan for Economic Reactivation, implemented on June 1, is beginning to show favorable results with 15,861 new formal jobs generated during August. This is a record figure for the eighth month of the year and places the state in second place nationally for job creation, according to data from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).
The 15,861 new jobs are made up of 13,325 permanent jobs and 2,536 temporary jobs; Despite the health crisis, this figure is above the historical generation average for the month of August, which is 5,558 formal jobs.
With this, the objective that Governor Enrique Alfaro had anticipated on August 18 was fulfilled, when he said in an event at Expo GDL that the entity would break with negative inertia in August and begin the rebound.
“The generation of 15,861 jobs in August is a clear sign that entrepreneurs and investors have confidence in the strategy that is being followed by the Government of Jalisco for economic reactivation and long-term economic development,” said Ernesto Sánchez Proal, head of the Ministry of Economic Development (Sedeco) of Jalisco.
At the national level, 92,390 formal jobs were generated during August 2020, Nuevo León being the entity with the highest generation with 16,354 new jobs; followed by Jalisco with 15,861; Chihuahua with 8,442; State of Mexico with 7,206 and Baja California with 6,886 new jobs created.
While nine entities registered losses, CDMX being the most affected with -5,465 formal jobs during the eighth month of the year, followed by Chiapas with -2,019; Nayarit with -1,644 and Sonora with -1,090.
“(Jalisco) stands out among the other states; it is distinguished precisely because it generates confidence for investment. The initiatives that we are carrying out, the strategies of this secretariat (Sedeco), but in general of the entire government, have given them this confidence and that is being reflected both in the investment numbers and in the employment numbers,” Sánchez Proal added.
Of the jobs generated during the month of August throughout the country, Jalisco contributed 17%, that is, 17 out of every 100 jobs were generated in our State.
Despite the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic caused the loss of 95,331 jobs in Jalisco, the route followed by the State Government was the correct one, giving positive results that mark the beginning of the road towards full economic reactivation in the state.
