Mazatlán, Sinaloa (September 1st, 2020). – “The beginning of the school year caused a drop in hotel occupancy of up to 15%, with levels that will hardly exceed 30%”, said Julio Birrueta.

The director of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Companies of Mazatlán estimated that for September and October they will be fluctuating between 25 and 30% occupancy.

He stated that the recently ended summer vacation season left benefits for the Mazatlan hotel sector.

“We were able to maintain an average occupancy of 42% throughout the summer holiday season, which given the conditions was very satisfactory and this of course is going to vary a little now that the children have returned to school,” he said.

He stressed that with a decrease in reservations and occupancy, they will seek to continue with discounts, specials, and packages, to attract tourism in the coming months.

“To reach this level of occupancy, still with many restrictions we have to put on the market a series of promotions, the hotels are willing to offer 50% discounts on their regular rates”, he expressed.

“We also expect that weekends will register an increase in hotel occupation compared to the rest of the week”, Julio Birrueta concluded.
