Colima, the 3rd state with the most graves and bodies founded: Search Commission

Since the beginning of the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in December 2018, Colima is the third state whit more clandestine graves and bodies have been located, according to the National Search Commission (CNB).

This agency of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) published this Monday (July 13) its most recent report on the search, identification, and registration of missing persons nationwide. According to this document, in the first 19 months of the current federal administration, 1,143 graves have been discovered in Mexico, which 130 were in Colima territory (11.37% of the total). In the same period, 1,682 bodies had been exhumed, which 179 were located in Colima (10.64%).

Veracruz is the entity with the highest number of graves found between December 1, 2018, and June 30, 2020, with 173 (15.14% of the national total), while in Sinaloa it has found 151 (13.21%) as CBN report.

According to official figures, Veracruz, Sinaloa, Colima, Guerrero, and Sonora encompass 57.13% of the total clandestine graves in the country, a total of 653.

In the case of the located bodies, Colima is only surpassed by Jalisco and Sinaloa —the states where the two main criminal organizations operating in the country originated— with 487 (28.95% of the total) and 253 (15.04%) corpses each.

Finally in JaliscoColima, and Michoacán, 45.77% of the total number of bodies in the country has been exhumed since the beginning of the López Obrador government: 770 in total.

In 2020, the federal government has allocated more than 341 million pesos in subsidies for state search commissions, of which 11 million were awarded to Colima.

 Search actions 

The federal agency highlighted that from January to July 2020, it has participated in 50 field search actions in 21 states of the country, including Colima, and with groups of relatives of disappeared persons in Guerrero, Veracruz, Coahuila, and Tamaulipas.

In these searches, the CNB indicated, they have located 32 bodies and hundreds of human remains, including that of local deputy Francis Bueno Sanchez, who on April 29 was deprived of her liberty and found lifeless in the municipality of Tecomán on 1st June.

The discovery of the remains of the Colima legislator was made in conjunction with the Colima State People Search Commission, the State Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Secretary of the Navy.
