Given the declarations of the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, referring to the fact that the Mexican beach tourist destinations will be the most benefited after the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotelier Gabriel Igartúa Sánchez, said that it is irresponsible for the official to affirm that the main destinations benefited are those of the beach, and although it may be, this must be sustained.

Likewise, he considered that Sectur should be coordinating efforts with the Ministry of Health and with certain scientific means and verifying that all tourism service providers apply the prevention regulations against this virus in an orderly manner.

He said he did not believe that the religious statements of an absent and irresponsible secretary were a panacea. Regarding the announcement of postponing the Tourist Tianguis until 2021, as well as the realization in September of a tianguis in a digital way, the hotelier considered that this event when it was held in Acapulco was obsolete, and when they were held by regions such as the Gala Puerto Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit, were more efficient.

It is worth mentioning that the federal official pointed out that in the case of tourism, Mexico will have an enormous opportunity to reactivate its international market, especially in the United States and Canada, which together represent 67.3 percent of the total of international visitors that arrive each year at country, 55.2 percent corresponding to the American Union and 12.1 percent to Canadians.

Sectur anticipates that potential tourists from these two important tourist markets will choose to travel to nearby destinations, with a range of no more than four and a half hours of flight
