MAYAKOBA GOLF CLASSIC IS RESCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 2020

The 14th edition of the PGA TOUR tournament will be held from December 3 to 6 as part of the modified world golf calendar due to the contingency of COVID-19

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX.- As part of the modified golf calendar at the global level, the dates of the Mayakoba Golf Classic 2020 have been adjusted and are confirmed for the week of November 30 to December 6. The date change was made due to the adjustment in the PGA TOUR calendar which will celebrate two of the Major Championships in the fall. The Mayakoba Golf Classic will be the last PGA TOUR FedExCup event of the year.

In this 14th consecutive edition, the Mayakoba Golf Classic 2020 will once again serve as an incredible opportunity to spread the beauties of Mexico, the Riviera Maya and Cancun worldwide, as well as to provide an incredible economic impact for Quintana Roo and its tourist destinations.

The health and safety of the community of Riviera Maya and Cancun and of all those involved with the PGA TOUR and the Mayakoba Golf Classic continue to be the number one priority, as they navigate the global crisis that is being experienced with the COVID-19 virus. . PGA TOUR and Mayakoba officers will continue contingency monitoring to ensure the event is carried out responsibly and safely.

Since its founding in 2007, the Mayakoba Golf Classic has generated more than $ 2.9 million in donations to a wide variety of philanthropic organizations locally, nationally, and internationally. Each year, the tournament enjoys global television coverage, reaching more than 220 countries and territories with a potential reach of more than 900 million homes.

Some of the golfers who have participated in previous editions of the tournament include Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and many more. In addition, throughout the history of the tournament, 21 Mexican players have competed, including Abraham Ancer, who is currently ranked no. 29 in the Official World Golf Ranking, and Carlos Ortiz, who finished runner-up in the 2019 edition, achieving the best position that any Mexican has achieved in the 13-year history of the tournament.
