MERIDA YUCATAN.- Given the arrival of the COVID-19 coronavirus in Yucatan, the hotel sector could lose up to 93% of its scheduled hotel occupancy, which is largely due to the cancelation of the 2020 Tourism Tianguis and the approach of Easter week.
According to the Mexican Hotel Association of Yucatan, occupancy loss of 93% in the state is contemplated, largely due to the cancelation of the Tourist Tianguis Expo
So far, there are 5 cases of coronavirus in the state confirmed, but the Mexican Association of Yucatan Hotels has considered this possibility since the first to cancel confirmation were the Chinese companies due to the lack of flights.
The State Tourism Secretariat held a meeting with members of the hotel sector, to explain the sanitary protocols that must be necessary to avoid contagion and proliferation of the virus.
Above all, the measures should be reinforced in public areas, open spaces, restaurants, hallways, stairways, elevators, toilets, and rooms.
The hotel association in the state continues with the reservation of the rooms, although they do not rule out the possibility of further cancellations, this in the presence of cases of coronaviruses in Europe, the United States, and Canada, where the main buyers and tour operators are located. of the travel tourism sector for Mexico.
It should be noted that among the flight cancellations, are the air routes between Europe and South America, to China, South Korea and other countries where the virus has been detected.
