Is AMLO Government finally going after Carlos Romero Deschamps and relatives for illicit enrichment and money laundering

The oil leader has been accused of corruption for years, and neither the PAN nor the PRI governments have acted against him

At least two complaints against oil leader  Carlos Romero Deschamps and six of his family members presented the  Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) to the  Attorney General’s Office , said  Reforma.

Romero Deschamps has been accused of corruption for years, and neither the National Action (PAN) nor the Institutional Revolutionary (PRI) governments have acted against him. On the contrary,  Vicente Fox forgave him detours for one billion pesos in the 1999-2000 electoral process and with  Felipe Calderón and Enrique Peña Nieto he won the nickname of the “Mexican sheikh”.

According to information from the Federal Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the investigations reach the stepdaughter of a sister of Romero Deschamps. One of the cases reported by the FIU resulted in the investigation folder FED / FECC / FECC-CDMX / 66/2019 of the FGR Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, for the crime of illicit enrichment.

“One of the cases reported by the FIU resulted in the investigation folder FED / FECC / FECC-CDMX / 66/2019 of the FGR Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, for the crime of illicit enrichment,” the newspaper published.

This is due to the fact that the agency identified deposits, transactions with checks and transfers through the Electronic Interbank Payment System (SPEI) in favor of Romero Deschamps family members, without any justification of origin or destination.

The complaint includes Blanca Rosa Durán, his wife; Paulina, Alejandro and Juan Carlos Romero Durán, their children; María Fernanda Ocejo, wife of Juan Carlos Romero; and Ana Luisa Aguinaco Romero, stepdaughter of María Esther Romero, sister of the oil leader.

Previously, the oil leader has been investigated and searched for money laundering investigations, as happened in the six-year term of former President Vicente Fox Quesada, when even arrest warrants were issued against him by Pemexgate.

For now, the leader of the Petroleum Union negotiates with Pemex the collective agreement 2019-2021 and the deadline to agree on it expires on July 31.

Yesterday a federal judge of the State of Mexico provisionally suspended any arrest warrant or presentation that has been released in the last hours
against  Carlos Romero Deschamps.
