The totality of the museums in this megalopolis offers enclosures for all tastes, interests, and personalities of its inhabitants or visitors.
Mexico City, the capital of museums.
Mexico City is one of those places that never sleeps and that always has a plan for the day, night or weekend. No matter what part of the city you are in, there is always a restaurant to try, streets to visit or museums and galleries to visit; and each of these sites transmits, in some way, the unique essence of the Mexican capital.
Thanks to the fact that CDMX is one of the three cities with the most museums in the world, it has a wide diversity of museums since 1790. Therefore, the totality of the museums in this megalopolis offers venues for all tastes, interests and personalities of its inhabitants or visitors. In fact, the museological diversity of the capital challenges the traditional notion of the boring or old museum, with silent corridors and rigid manuals of behavior; Nowadays there are venues dedicated to the interaction between knowledge, sensations and fun.
According to SECTUR, the first museum in Mexico was founded in 1790 , and was a space dedicated to the most outstanding biodiversity of New Spain. Eventually, in 1825, the first Mexican National Museum emerged, where documents from ancient Mexico, archaeological pieces and works that were under the charge of the Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico used to be exhibited; and in fact, since the museum’s collection began to expand almost disproportionately, it was decided to divide the site into two, resulting in the Natural History Museum -1909- and the National Museum of Anthropology, History and Ethnography -1910-.
Since then, and as the city grew in space and time, the need not only to recover vestiges of the Mexican past, but also to include the interests that arose as the life of Mexico was evolving. Perhaps this is the reason why it was diversifying the need to visit interesting, cultural and surprising venues that leave in mind a desire to discover more, to love Mexico more and more and its peculiarities, to be seduced by its hypnotic sensations …
According to figures from the government of Mexico City, the capital has 185 museums , although it does not have an official list, this means that there are many fascinating venues that have not been identified.
Here we share the list of museums that exist in the CDMX:
The new ones:
The Pulque Museum and the Pulquerías
Av. Hidalgo 107-109, Historical Center, Guerrero.

The objective of this center is to dignify and raise the name of pulque for the new generations, since for more than a couple of decades various negative myths have been generated around the drink of the gods. Located inside the Ex Convent of San Hipólito, the Museum of Pulque and Pulquerias opened its doors on February 8 where it is possible to know the various aspects of this ancestral drink that has survived since the time of the Aztecs.
Trick Eye Museum
Av Ejercito Nacional 843-B, Granada.

This new museum is made up of 6 rooms distributed over 1,800 square meters , which translates into at least an hour and a half of entertainment and dozens of stories for Instagram . The Trick Eye Museum Mexico is present in China, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Korea and this is the first headquarters in Latin America, becoming the largest interactive 3D museum in the world.
Soumaya Museum – Casa Guillermo Tovar de Teresa
Valladolid 52, Rome Nte.

Located in the heart of the Roma neighborhood, this site seeks to enhance the life of the historian Guillermo Tovar de Teresa (1956-2013), former chronicler of the city and last owner of the building where the museum is located, who was an art advisor for the Presidency of the Republic as for Carlos Slim himself , with whom he developed a close friendship.
Los Pinos Cultural Complex
Street Park Lira S / N, Bosque de Chapultepec I Sec.

Right in the residential space located in the Bosque de Chapultepec , Los Pinos opened its doors so that citizens could know its interior. Something similar happened during the same term as Cárdenas, when he decided not to live in the Castillo de Chapultepec (as his predecessors had done) so that everyone could visit him, a place that later became the National Museum of History.
Site Museum of Chapultepec
Grand Avenue, Miguel Hidalgo, San Miguel Chapultepec I Sec.

This museum tells you the history of the forest as a space that has been transformed and created from the human interactions that have taken place there. The site recalls that the forest was a sacred territory for pre-Hispanic cultures , in which the Toltecs, the Teotihuacans, the Tepanecas and the Mexicas were present, around which legends were created while exploiting their vast natural resources, including one of the most important aqueducts for the population of Tenochtitlan.
Live Arts Center
Salvador Novo Street 8, Santa Catarina.

A space for all ages where you can attend concerts, avant-garde art galleries, workshops, plays, sports activities and other events . The enclosure has two entrances, the main one leads you to the building that houses exhibitions on its first floor, while on the ground floor there are classrooms for workshops and laboratories.
Perfume Museum
Calle de Tacuba 12, Historical Center

Experts in the art of perfume will be responsible for the curatorship and museography of the MUPE that will include rooms where the public will be able to know the main natural and artificial raw materials for the creation of fragrances , the design of bottles, the operation of the respiratory apparatus in charge of the smell, the strength of olfactory memory and how it acts in the subconscious.
Manzanares Cultural Center 25
Manzanares Street 25, Historical Center, Center.

In the street of Manzanares number 25, in La Merced , is the oldest building that has been built in the capital , a house that although it was always known by locals that it was an ancient construction, it took 5 centuries in arouse the curiosity of the entire city. Now, it is an example of the creativity of New Spain , because it maintains the disposition of contiguous dwellings typical of the Mesoamerican tradition (in this case, 15 rooms around a patio), with the introduction of elements of the Spanish housing such as quarry frames in around doors and windows, and the wooden beams on their roofs.

Casona de Leonora Carrington
Chihuahua 194, Colonia Roma.

For years, the Surrealist painter, Leonora Carrington, inhabited this house in Rome. He turned it into his little universe of inspiration, his muse. According to information about his stay, Carrington lived between Colonia Roma and Condesa, in about 40 blocks. He lived with Remedios Varo, and spent a great time with other of his eccentric friends (such as Julio Cortazar and Aldoux Huxley) through the streets of his Mexican neighborhood. In addition to the Museum, the Autonomous University of Mexico plans to create a digital documentation center and a Diploma in Surrealist Studies, as part of the Leonora Carrington Project.
