The Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco) will acquire, as of July 1, the fiscal authority for the collection of fines and the first amount that it will seek to collect will be for 1,500 million pesos.

“As of July 1, we will begin the collection of 1,500 million pesos in fines that are from the second semester of last year and the first semester of this year,” said Ricardo Sheffield, head of Profeco.

According to Sheffield, most of the fines are for breaches of Official Mexican Standards (NOM) of companies in the tourism, energy and food sectors.
