Mérida Yucatan will host the World Summit for the Nobel Peace Prizes

The 17th edition of the summit will be held at the International Congress Center of the capital of Yucatan and its organization will cost 25 million pesos.

The last edition of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates was held in Bogotá in 2017.

Mérida will host the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, an event that takes place in Mexico for the first time in 20 years, and which includes gathering 3,000 attendees and 20 high-level panelists, among which Rigoberta Menchú, Mikhail Gorbachev, Lech Walesa, Jimmy Carter, Juan Manuel Santos and the Dalai Lama.

The organization of the event, which will take place from September 19 to 22 of this year, will cost 25 million pesos and is estimated to leave an economic spill for the entity of 85 million pesos, according to Federico Treviño Villarreal, director of the Trust for the Development of Tourism of Meetings (Fideture), who added that in some destinations it has generated up to more than 20 million dollars in unpaid advertising.

The organizers of the summit, which are members of the private sector and the state government, led by the secretary of tourism development, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, are waiting for the next inspection visit of the World Summit.

This event, stressed Fridman, has been held since 1999 and is one of the most relevant meetings related to peace dialogues in the world, which has been held in important cities of the city such as Paris, London, Hiroshima and Berlin.

For his part, the president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco Servytur) of Mérida, Michel José Salum Francis, stressed that receiving in this city the World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize winners ratifies Yucatan, mainly Mérida, as a high-level destination to host high-profile personalities and leaders.
