Elisa Carrillo will receive the “Alma de la Danza” award in Russia

She will be the first Mexican dancer to receive the most important recognition of choreographic art in that country.

The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the editors of the magazine “Ballet” will award Elisa Carrillo Cabrera, the first dancer of the Staatsballett Berlin, the “Alma de la Danza 2019” prize, which recognizes the most outstanding of classical dance in the world and is considered the most important in Russia.

Carrillo will become the first Mexican to receive this award and one of the few foreign dancers who has obtained it in 25 years of its existence. It will be next April 30 of this year, international dance day, when you receive it at the Moscow Academic Musical Theater Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko.

The reason for the award is to give recognition to the Mexican dancer for her work “promoting classic heritage in the world” and her contribution to the dissemination, promotion, and improvement of dance, according to Valeria Uralskaya, editor-in-chief of the Renowned magazine and honorary artist of Russia.

The prize “Alma de la Danza” was created in 1994 by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the editors of the magazine “Ballet”. In past editions, he has been handed over to legends of classical dance such as Natalia Makarova, Uliana Lapatkina, Svetlana Zakharova, Diana Vishneva, Yuri Grigorovich, Maya Plisetskaya, and Rodion Shchedri.

At the awards ceremony, a concert and a ballet gala will be held, in which the first dancer of the Staatsballett Berlin will be presented as a star.

Success trajectory

This award is added to a long list of international awards for the Mexican. Among them, the Gold Medal for Merit of Fine Arts in 2016, also the International Dance Open of St. Petersburg in 2013 and the Medal of Merit in Arts of the International Festival of Mayan Culture. In addition to his nomination to the Belisario Dominguez Medal by the Chamber of Senators.
