Claudia Curiel de Icaza highlighted that the port city of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, will host one of the key stages of “México Canta,” a national competition that seeks to promote a new generation of music free from the glorification of violence.
Mazatlán is strengthening its position as a world-class cultural and tourism destination by serving as the venue for the semifinal of “México Canta,” a competition organized by the Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Mexican Music Council.
The initiative aims to renew musical narratives by moving away from the glorification of violence and encouraging compositions that celebrate love, heartbreak, national identity, and traditional Mexican music genres, with the goal of strengthening the country’s cultural heritage.
Thousands Responded to the Call
During “La Mañanera del Pueblo,” led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the Federal Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, presented updates on the competition and highlighted the historic response to the call for participants.
The competition received 16,289 registrations, including:
- 10,528 participants from Mexico
- 5,761 participants from the United States
The Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Mireya Sosa Osuna, stated that the selection of Mazatlán confirms the city’s ability to host events of national significance. She emphasized that culture also strengthens tourism, generates economic activity, and promotes a positive image of the state.
The Road to the Final
The competition will receive extensive coverage through four special television programs and broadcasts on 45 public media outlets.
Activities will begin on August 23 at the Million Dollar Theater in Los Angeles, California, where the audience will select the first six finalists.
Competition Semifinal
On August 31, the historic Ángela Peralta Theater in Mazatlán will host the semifinal, further establishing the city as the venue for one of the year’s most significant cultural events.
The competition will continue on September 6 with the selection of the seventh finalist.
The grand final will take place on September 13 at the National Auditorium in Mexico City, and the finalists will participate in the September 15 Independence Day celebrations at the Zócalo of Mexico City.
